Hi, I'm Nico, a third-year Physics student with Argentinian-British roots (I know, conflicting!)
I'm running for Deputy President Welfare, driven by personal experiences that have shaped my university life. Balancing employment and studies through the cost of living crisis has given me firsthand insights into our shared struggles. My experience with a rare congenital disability has emphasised the need for inclusivity and personalised support, driving my commitment to a more supportive community.
I also see welfare as our shared duty to the environment. I aim for Imperial to be a leader in sustainability, merging academic excellence with eco-friendly initiatives.
Turning insights into action, I propose the following key policies:
Inclusivity
- Expand mentorship programs connecting underrepresented BAME/Disabled/LGBTQ/Women students with alumni.
- Guarantee period product availability.
- Lobby for Imperial to sign the government-backed pledge to prohibit the use of NDAs against victims of sexual misconduct, discrimination, or bullying.
Cost of Living Support
- Launch 'Imperial Food Circle' to provide discounted food offers to channel surplus food to students.
- Lobby for Imperial's accreditation as a Living Wage Employer.
Sustainability
- Launch a Cycle to Uni Scheme with Imperial-owned bikes for term-time hire.
- Boost funding for student-driven sustainability initiatives.
- Expand campus green spaces for environmental and recreational benefits.
Community Wellbeing
- Increase mental health first aid trained staff.
- Host Wellbeing Wednesdays for cross-department socialising and networking.
- Implement a Seasonal Wellbeing Tracker to improve student mental health.
