Maegan Spiteri
Hi I'm Meg, I am a second year PhD student in the Department of Bioengineering, and I am running to be your next Disabilities Officer.
As a PhD student, I have struggled to find information about support and accomodations tailored to those in a research degree. We don't always have coursework or lectures or exams, and therefore, we need different things. This is one of the reasons I have decided to run as Disabilities Officer.
If elected my goals will be:
- Raise awareness of the needs of postgraduate disabled students, especially those in a research degree
- Create a bank of information for personal tutors and supervisors about disabilities in our student body
- Represent and advocate for all disabled students (formally diagnosed or otherwise) at a Union and College level
- Create a safe space for students to ask for and receive help
I believe I am a good fit for this role as I have several years of previous rep experience within the Department of Bioengineering, both at a undergrad and postgrad level.
In my role as Disabilities Officer, I am committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all disabled students. Together, let's bridge the information gap, amplify our voices, and cultivate a community where everyone can thrive.
Your vote for me is a vote for a more accessible, understanding, and equitable academic experience.
