Edgar Schaeff
Dear Biochemists,
I am not going to make wild promises; I simply am running for this role, because I like to be there for you, whether you feel helpless or overwhelmed by academic work or by the downs of life. I am always happy to have a chat:).
This year I have been Y1 Biochemistry wellbeing representative and got insights in how far we students can realistically instigate changes in department.
My key aim will be to improve your wellbeing by relieving some of your academic distress, working in close coordination with the academic representatives and BiochemSoc by spreading out workload and deadlines better, and by creating an online platform that allows effective student cooperation.
However, I will also continue to organize mental health and mindfulness seminars, use polls to gauge trends in wellbeing and work with BiochemSoc to continue to provide you with a wide range of social events and seminars.
Moreover, In the role, you can expect me to conduct regular surveys to collate your feedback across the board, to diligently represent you in student staff committee meetings and to push in unison together with all representatives to resolve wellbeing and academic issues as they come up.
Most importantly, I am always available to you in moments of personal worries and am happy to help in finding you further support.
Overall, I have really enjoyed my journey as student representative so far and want to thank my fellow Y1 biochemistry students for their positive feedback:)
