Samuel Tan
Electrical & Electronic Engineering (UG): Departmental Wellbeing Representative
I'm Sam and I've currently been the year Wellbeing Rep for Y2 EEE and have been for both my first and second year of my degree. I hope to work together with the faculty in order to push for ideal wellbeing outcomes for the department, understanding the needs of different year groups. I know how to communicate within the department and create effective change in the department, and have built up a strong working relationship.
In my term, I hope to deliver on the following for the student community:
- Push for more wellbeing activities - lunchtime tea and biscuits in the department on a day that people will be in (e.g. Tuesday)
- Push for a talk from the Careers Service for incoming first years, as students may not be aware of the need to start creating a CV and what opportunities may exist in the first year
- Initiate wellbeing related activities in the department - e.g. dog petting in the common room
- Increase the number of charging ports (if possible) in lecture rooms e.g. 408
Internally, I hope to:
- Streamline suggestion processes by creating a form where people can suggest wellbeing-related improvements
- Creating a protocol where action for smaller issues can be taken outside of the Student-Staff Committee meetings, while minimising the need for individual action to be taken by students (e.g. 408 heating not working)
