Yifeng Mao
I am running for the position of Postgraduate Academic and Welfare Officer in the Imperial College Union (ICU). As a committed member of our vibrant community, I am deeply dedicated to enhancing the inclusivity and responsiveness of our association, particularly for the postgraduate segment.
My foremost agenda is to improve the welfare of foreign postgraduate students, a group that significantly enriches our academic diversity. This initiative is especially vital for overseas and exchange PhD students, aiming to foster a more inclusive and diverse academic community at Imperial. I am committed to collaborating with members of the City and Guilds College Union (CGCU) and the ICU's Vice President of Education to drive meaningful improvements in this area.
Additionally, I stand for the principle of equality among all postgraduate student groups. My campaign includes a strategic push to expand recruitment efforts targeting students from underrepresented backgrounds, thereby challenging and aiming to eliminate discrimination based on ethnicity. This critical endeavor seeks to lay the groundwork for academic and educational equity, ensuring a balanced and equitable environment for all postgraduate students at Imperial.
My passion for driving positive change is matched only by my readiness to commit to the Academic and Welfare Officer role and our union. By casting your vote for me, you are not merely selecting a representative; you are embracing a vision for a more inclusive, engaged, and improved Imperial College Union.
