Sailing: Commodore
Imperial College Sailing club has recently improved its standing in the university sailing community. Through the example set by our distinguished members, by collaborating with our new venue (QMSC) and potentially with the involvement of RTYC amongst other partners; we are on track to become one of the top clubs in the country. As Commodore it will be my goal to set up a framework to go beyond this and become undisputedly the best club in the country.
To achieve this lofty ambition, I will accomplish the following with my committee next year:
- Reaching our membership targets by recognising that beginner and social sailing is not feasible during the winter months and instead making use of time at the start of term (before the wetsuit rule kicks in) to run a series of social sailing extravaganzas and in the summer term to run beginners’ courses.
- Running high quality team racing trainings on Saturdays and on as many Wednesdays as practicable to be supplemented with in person theory sessions.
- Continuing to attend an exemplary number of team racing competitions as well as match racing and fleet racing.
- Building on the learnings of this year’s successful Icicle, increasing the number of teams and streamlining the event.
- Applying to host a BUSA event.
- Selling the third flight and other fundraising to raise money for new boats.
- Connecting and running joint trainings and social events with the wider sailing community (IC Yacht, RTYC, participating in QMSC races).
