Sailing: Junior Treasurer
Hi y’all! I am running to be your treasurer because I’ve loved getting involved with sailing this year and would like to get my hands dirty with day-to-day operations of the club. I’m a practiced communicator, highly organized and believe I could help club operations run smoothly.
With that in mind, these are my aims and strategies:
Optimizing Club Organization/Committee Coordination
- maintaining an objectives list with deadlines so committee has a clear picture of finances and expected timing
- Frequent updates/reminders for committee, specifically commodore, so nothing slips through the cracks
- Setting early payment deadline for Icicle with scheduled follow-ups
- Working with Sponsorship Sec to find a business/org to take on some cost
- Sending out tickets/upcoming payments early with clear payment details and follow-ups
Saving for Club Expansion
- Using our new home at Queen Mary to run larger events (e.g. BUSA finals, match racing)
- Encouraging alum donation using impact reports and the club’s 5 year plan
- Facilitating social sailing by financing transport options (e.g. minivans, separate own-way vs. transport included tickets)
- Cheaper merch options priced at a profit (e.g. shirts, hats) that more social/beginner sailors might buy.
Making Sailing More Affordable
- Working with QM and RTYC for discounts/access to sailing, qualifications, and instructor positions
- Consider affiliate marketing for Icicle website – pubs near host’s houses, event sponsors, Aim to have this on an indefinite term for year-round sailing discounts
- Working with sponsorship sec to find sponsors for minivans
