Daryl Yong
Malaysian: Sports Officer
Hello ICUMS! I am Daryl, a candidate for the sports officer position for the Malaysian Society.
Sports have been a big part of my life and I am certain that almost everyone would relate to it. I believe I am fit for this role as I have experiences in being the captain of the cheerleading coed team and the funding director of the Interact Club. Through these societies I have learnt the importance of leadership, communication, project management and teamwork for organising events.
My plans are as the sports officer are:
- Organise weekly sports sessions for football, basketball, table tennis, netball, badminton and volleyball for students to play sports casually
- Taster sessions will be available for every sport at the start of autumn and spring term after exams
- Will be held at convenient locations such as Ethos
- Introduce cheerleading and bouldering as new sports for ICUMS
- Cheerleading:
- weekly/bi-weekly 2 hour sessions on saturdays either
- Basic stunts will be thought
- Fees approximately £3
- Bouldering:
- Bi-weekly/monthly sessions at London climbing gyms
- Fees dependent on the gym selected
- Gyms selected will have student discounts
- Cheerleading:
- Organise a ICUMS sports day/buddy family sports day
- Sports/games day for buddy families to win points and prizes
- Collaborate with sports societies/msoc societies from other universities for friendly matches

I hope that you will consider me to be your sports officer!
