Raz Mohd Razlan
As a current member of the Imperial cheerleading team and the cheerleading captain in high school, I have gained a lot of experience in organising trainings and handling the logistics of sporting competitions. I also learned a lot about event planning and proposals while being the event director in high school where I organised various events such as sports day, fundraisers and the annual inter-class championships.
As sports officer, my main goals are to:
- Continue weekly sports sessions and maintain participation by collaborating with other Imperial societies or MSocs from other universities at least once a month
- Ensure members are aware of weekly sports sessions and matches through regular social media reminders
- Work closely with the events officers to organise unique sports outings (rock climbing, hiking, mini golf, bungee jumping etc)
- Organise ICUMS Sports Day 2024 in the autumn term to avoid scheduling conflicts with MNight practice and exams in the spring term
- Send teams for all sports to the main inter-uni competitions such as Nottingham Games, Warwick Games and Manchester Games
Even if you aren't an athlete, I truly believe that sports are an integral aspect of student life because it bring us all together and allow us as Malaysians studying abroad to feel closer to home by providing a sense of community. Whether you’re training with a team every week or simply just cheering your friend on by the sidelines, sports can bring so much joy, which is exactly why I want to be your sports officer.
