Sama Al-Shawa
Hi! My name is Sama and I would love to be your Treasurer at WSET. Throughout the year I will be a strategic and ethical Treasurer. My problem solving skills, attention to detail and technical financial planning will be essential in ensuring the financial health of our society. I am eager to have a new opportunity to utilise my financial knowledge and develop my experience further.
My past experience as the Year 2 BME Academic Representative was paramount to preparing me for this role. I enhanced my collaborative, communication and interpersonal skills while working with other reps, students and liaising with professors and staff to optimise course content delivery, quality and eliminate errors. I honed my organisational skills, refined my time management and learned to rapidly solve problems and address issues raised by both students and professors.
This past experience has equipped me with the adequate skills to work within a team and be a capable Treasurer.
In my role as Treasurer, I will focus on fulfilling my responsibilities in managing WSET’s finances through 3 main objectives:
1- Ensuring financial stability and growth: I will prioritise having an ample monetary reserve and consistent capital growth.
2- Practical Operations: I plan to automate routine tasks and enhance cash handling procedures.
3- Successful budget management: I will create a strategic budget that will plan for future scenarios.
As Treasurer, I aim to handle WSET’s financial operations smoothly and effectively as possible. Thank you for your attention and consideration!
