Veena Saravanan
Hi, I’m Veena and I would love to be involved in widening participation for students interested in medicine because of my passion for inclusivity and education. My empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by students from underrepresented backgrounds will enable me to create a welcoming and supportive environment where they can thrive and explore their potential in medicine and beyond. As the Conference Chair for Cardiovascular Society this year, I successfully organised an engaging and interactive conference for approximately 100 medical students and prominent cardiologists. This involved extensive collaboration with many medical professionals to not only co-ordinate keynote speakers but also organise 4 medical and surgical workshops. With my strong organisational skills and ability to delegate work efficiently, I believe I can effectively plan and execute a conference that inspires and empowers students to pursue their dreams in medicine. Widening participation in medicine is crucial not only for promoting equality but also for enriching the field with diverse perspectives and talents, ultimately improving patient care and advancing health outcomes. I would love the opportunity to harness the ideas of our members to create an inspiring conference that not only advises students on the application process but also shows them the realities of being a medical student and a doctor.
