Leah Heartin
My name is Leah and I'm a 3rd year medic from the Wirral.
I am running for Oncology Society President with Shivank Khare. We both work well together and through our existing roles in Oncology Society have a sound understanding of how to run the society effectively. We've worked closely with the existing presidents Iihan and Viraj and feel we'd be able to seamlessly transition into the role. We have numerous exciting plans for next year including scaling up the Journal Club, having more teaching for younger years and expanding the conference.
This last year I have been Palliative Care Officer for ICSM Oncology Society but since the scope of the role was limited, I greatly expanded my role. I organised the monthly Journal Club which invited researchers to come and discuss a paper with students. This was a fantastic opportunity for networking and led to many students pursuing research opportunities. I also organised the Speaker Day for our annual Surg-Onco Conference, which involved contacting and arranging the day. From working the stall at Freshers Fair to managing social media posts, I have got stuck in and never failed to give this society my all.
I am so proud of the work I've done in Oncology society this year. The field of Oncology is dynamic and the scope for research immense. Oncology is a field I'm hugely passionate about and this society is thriving; it would be an honour to be the next president of it.
