Ryhan Patel
Hi, my name is Ryhan and I am current 3rd year medical student hoping to become the next Oncology Conference Officer!
Having attended the Oncology conference 2022, I was fascinated by the vast nature of cancer and the cutting-edge technology that is at the forefront of the field. Since then, my love for oncology has grown, highlighted as I am lucky enough to be part of the British Oncological Society’s mentorship program for undergraduates since early 2023. This has enabled me to have a vast array of contacts who are leading surgical innovation regarding oncology, many of whom would be willing to contribute to the success of the next Oncology Society’s Surgical Conference.
I have a clear passion for oncology and I am keen to put the maximum amount of work into making next years conference an even bigger success. Conferences are a great way to help students get a taste of the speciality as well as the cutting-edge innovation that is floating around in the medical community.
One unique idea I have for improving the Oncology Conference is adding in a workshop that aims to teach the very basics of computer-based genomics in relation to the surgical oncological field as well as pointing interested students in the right direction to get further involved in the newly developing world of genomics. A workshop would be the most ideal setting for a tutorial in computer-based genomics due to its unfamiliarity amongst medical students as well as its need for techincal skills.
