Lennon Hooper
Hey guys, my name is Lennon, a third year medic, and this year I am running to be your academic officer! I believe this role would suit my interests in oncology and teaching perfectly; I would love to get even more involved with OncSoc this year after being on the subcommittee for the recent Surgical Oncology Conference!
Having taken on 4 groups of CPA tutees this year, it is safe to say I have a passion for teaching. Additionally, I have been tutoring refugees through a charity and I strongly believe I have an understanding of what makes a good teacher. CPA and OSCE tutoring is invaluable to younger years, I will aim to provide a comprehensive set of tutorials, running through mark schemes and common pitfalls. Importantly, I want to run sessions on non-examination OSCEs as I believe these are not focused on enough by third years and we usually get minimal practise in clinical skills sessions.
Many students don't give oncology enough thought as a specialty, and a lecture series to introduce medical, clinical and surgical oncology to younger years would a fantastic way to expose people early on. Finally, I would like to engage with new and existing connections within the field to provide audit, QI and research opportunities for those interested.
Overall, I have the experience and enthusiasm to be a very successful academic officer for Oncology Society and I hope you can trust me with your vote. Thanks for reading!
