Shivani Welling

Hello everyone! My name is Shivani and I’m a fourth-year medic who would love to be your Dance Artistic Director this year!

Like many of you, I was not trained in classical dance since I was 2, but have always held a passion for trying out new styles. My appreciation for dance has grown exponentially throughout my involvement in Indiansoc and has seen me perform in the iconic East Meets West showcase and on the national stage as part of a winning Just Bollywood team. I am eager to increase the accessibility and outreach of Indiansoc dance, hoping to provide you with the same welcoming environment that motivated me.

My main aims this year:

1. Dance Diversity: I aim to diversify our dance classes by spotlighting different Indian styles each month. From classical Kathak to energetic Bhangra, these classes will offer a broader exploration of Indian dance forms.
2. Collaborative Outreach: Collaboration breeds creativity. By partnering with societies like Latin Dance and Ballroom, we can engage a wider audience and incorporate diverse styles into our repertoire.
3. Elevating EMW: "East Meets West" is our flagship event. I will work to increase support for this showcase and encourage working with performers in TBS (bhangra) and KOG (gaana) to enhance specific segments.
4. Inclusive Workshops: To foster a supportive learning environment, I will organize workshops catering to dancers of all skill levels.
5. Community Building: Look for ways to include dance in volunteering and social service activities.
