Alexander Apkarian
Hi! I'm Alexander, a Medical Biosciences student entering his penultimate year. I'm excited to be running for President of Clinical Genetics Society.
I have always been drawn to genetics given its intersection with so many different biomedical disciplines. Over the past couple years I have taken the opportunity to immerse myself in the field across multiple settings. I have spent several months researching the genetic landscape of Alzheimer’s, dystonia, and colorectal cancer at two different labs at Harvard Medical School and at a cancer research facility in LA.
As president, I would aim to:
- Introduce a journal club to increase exposure to the field’s rapidly evolving landscape.
- Hold a series of sessions encouraging and informing students on how to break into biomedical research.
- Initiate a captivating speaker series to inspire and introduce our members to the vast array of possibilities in this diverse field.
- Hold networking events to facilitate the meeting of like-minded students.
- Continue the flagship conference, building upon this year’s resounding success.
- Collaborate and host events with other societies to explore the intersection of genetics with various disciplines.
Having been in the subcommittee for this year’s ClinGen x PMIC conference, I've seen the behind-the-scenes work and am eager to deepen my involvement and contribute more as President.
