DoCSoc: Academic Events Coordinator
As inquisitive STEM students, I believe that all members of DoCSoc, including myself, are eager to constantly expand their technical horizons and acquire new skills.
Thus, I am standing for the role of Academic Events Coordinator to transform DoCSoc into a hub of academic exploration and learning regarding all things computing.
What are my plans?
- Organize diverse skill workshops, reintroducing events like Rust 101 and offering introductory sessions on machine learning/deep learning using libraries like ScikitLearn or Pytorch.
- Continue hosting traditional career-building events such as Internships 101 and UROPs 101, while also introducing sessions/seminars on specialized topics such as tech CV building and interview preparation.
- Facilitate more frequent DoCSoc “Deep Dives”, featuring professors discussing their research and promoting potential UROP opportunities.
- Maintain open communication with all members, especially lower-year students, to understand their learning needs and preferences, ensuring events are tailored to maximize mutual benefit.
My relevant experience:
- As a former high school student council president, I successfully organized academic and social events, which helped me hone my event management, organization, and leadership skills.
- I have also volunteered as a mentor in coding and math workshops for underprivileged students, which serves as a testament to my commitment towards education and skill development.
Together, let’s foster a culture of continuous learning and growth within DoCSoc. Looking forward to counting your vote!
