Aidan Birdi
Hi I’m Aidan – a third year medic.
It’s been a great pleasure this year to work as the Education Officer for ICSM Coding. I’ve really enjoyed hosting our beginner Python course aimed at medics and taught by medics, and it’s been great to help members learn coding through the Python course socials and drop-in sessions. I’m looking forward to hosting our new mathematical modelling series in Medicine later this month, as well as in helping with our much anticipated inaugural conference!
Coding is an extremely important gateway skill in Medicine, and our course doesn’t emphasise its due importance, so our society is more important than ever to equip our members with key skills.
I have a good amount of coding experience which I feel puts me in a good position to help steer the society. I’ve worked on a computational cardiology UROP which applied information theory and machine learning to electrophysiological modelling, a generative AI project in my Horizons, as well as having a large extra-curricular interest in maths and stats.
My primary goals as Outreach Officer would be to:
- Utilise society, committee, member and my links to secure interesting and relevant external talks, sponsors and support.
- Work closely with other committee members to maintain and build strong sponsorship and collaborative links to benefit our members.
- Play pivotal roles in the organisation and logistics of events, particularly our conference.
- Keep our members informed of great external opportunities.
- Be a friendly point of contact for our members.
