Pharmacology: Assistant Vice-President

Since sixth-form when I wrote about the organic chemistry behind antibiotics for our school newsletter, I knew I enjoyed Pharmacology and now, I’d like to help increase students’ interest in Pharmacology beyond just our tutorials.

In addition to supporting the VP, I hope to:

  • Make this society more inclusive of other subjects (Biochem, Chem, BMB) and recruit a representative/ subcommittee for each of these disciplines to organise relevant talks for them that can inform medics about the science behind drugs.
  • Organise monthly journal clubs to increase students’ critical appraisal skills and increase accessibility to understanding scientific literature.

I am qualified because:

  • My duties as Publicity Officer, Specialty Liaison and Head of Strategy, Core Committee Member, and Subcommittee for SORA, GPSoc, ImmunoSoc and SurgSoc respectively have equipped me for the varied nature of this role.
  • Through my BTEC in teamwork and organising my events this year, I have learned to use communal checklists, risk management with contingency plans, segmentation of tasks, constant communication, progress tracking using designated measures of success and efficient prioritisation.

I understand that this role is diverse and requires many different skills. However, my greatest strength is my initiative to grow from feedback, problem-solve and adapt to an unfamiliar environment. I hope to contribute to making PharmSoc an even bigger success!
