Rebecca Hughes
Helo pawb/Hello all,
My name is Rebecca Hughes and I am a second year physics student. I am running for the Chair position in the Welsh society. I am very proud to be Welsh and feel strongly about the importance of the Welsh society as it enables us to connect with fellow Welsh people and to speak in the Welsh language outside of Wales.
I grew up in North Wales and I am a fluent Welsh speaker. I immediately joined the Welsh society in my first year of university, and I'm grateful for the valuable platform it provides to meet new Welsh people and to converse in Welsh. Moving from rural North Wales to the enormous city of London is very daunting, but joining the Welsh society helps ease that overwhelming feeling by giving you a sense of home, and to be able to bond over shared experiences (such as being made to say Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch!)
If I were to be elected as Chair of the Welsh society, I would ensure:
- There will be weekly social sessions where you can meet fellow Welsh people.
- There will be sessions to learn or to teach the Welsh language.
- The possbility of planning trips to Wales as a society will be explored.
I would be honoured to represent the Welsh individuals in Imperial College London as Chair of the Welsh society, and to be given the opportunity to make a positive impact on your university experience.
Diolch yn fawr/Thank you very much,
Rebecca Hughes
