Janica Chan
Hello! I'm Janica, a microbiology student with a growing interest for bioinformatics and AI usage for protein structure determination. Outside of academics, my interests include fungi (both in biology and cooking), music and knitting!
As the industry liaison officer, I would focus on bridging the gap between students and the industry, which many find to be a daunting. I would like to provide more opportunities to members for meet professionals, such as career fairs. This would allow chances for networking, as well as listening to talks and being part of discussions and Q&As. I aim to connect students with recruiters, in particular those looking for life science backgrounds. As part of these events, I would also like to organise opportunities for students to hear from Imperial graduates currently in the field.
I would aim to organise conferences with external speakers to allow members to and gain insight into new research, technology and developments in the field. Members would have the opportunity to engage in talks and discussiosns while also learning about real-world applications of data analysis and computer science in the world of biology. Additionally, my role would involve communiticating with external speakers for these events, and also communicating with industry professionals for advertisments.
I would love to be able to provide all members opportunites regardless of experience level, with something for those with advanced skills and also newcomers. I am excited for the possibilities ahead and look forward to the future of the society next year!
