LGBTQ+ Officer

Hi everyone! I'm Anson (they/them), a 3rd year Bioengineering student and I'm running for LGBTQ+ Officer!

As IQ’s Secretary and BioEng Wellbeing Events Officer, I have:

  • Organized a diverse range of events – including IQ socials, DIY nights, Ice-skating and promoted external events + discounts to students
  • Created IQ Sponsorship Proposals for the upcoming year
  • Worked with the IQ President to apply for the EDI seed fund for supporting queer students in 2024-25 (which is what our current LGBTQ+ Officer did last year!)

These roles helped me realise what more we could do to improve queer students’ experience at Imperial, specifically mental health support, support for trans+ and QPOC students and fostering Imperial’s connections with local LGBTQ+ communities. Hence, I plan to:

  • Apply to hold exhibitions at the CLCC Foyer Gallery, featuring queer students' art
  • Equip students with the skills and knowledge to support their peers by holding Mental Health First Aid Training using the EDI Seed Fund
  • Reimburse travel costs for Imperial students who volunteer for LGBTQ+ charities
  • Continue working with the Trans+ Officer and the Union to support trans+ students' needs – e.g. promoting the availability of the Gender Expression Fund
  • Foster collaboration between IQ and Constituent Unions to organise Career talks
  • Organize social events, e.g. Sip and Paint
  • Actively listen to societies such as Sexpression and the ICSM LGBTQ+ society to address concerns, present them at EDI Forums, and identify strategies to support students

Thank you and please vote for me for an inclusive and exciting future!
