Yun Hui Tan

Hi everyone! My name is Abigail / Yun Hui and I am running for Secretary of LMAP society. I feel that public health is an interesting field, and as I worked on the LMAP podcast, certain topics like how housing inequality affects health and the sheer extent of how gambling harms health struck my heart, as the issue of health inequality feels so raw. I feel spurred to raise awareness and promote research on lifestyle medicine, which makes me want to contribute in committee for LMAP society.

Having been part of iPRAS and SurgSoc subcommittee for the past year, I helped in tasks from procuring conference supplies, refreshments and set up/ cleanup, to ushering and interacting with delegates and demonstrators. This has given me a deeper understanding of the logistics, coordination and flow needed to run conferences. I believe I am equipped to step up and lead more conference preparations as secretary of LMAP soc.

I was previously Vice-President of a nursing home volunteering programme, where I guided volunteers to plan activities catering to specific needs of the elderly. I helped to facilitate committee meetings on the direction and planning of the programme, while liaising and coordinating with volunteers and nursing home staff. Indeed, I have also taken meeting minutes several times before. These faciliation and liaison experiences would prepare me to coordinate with the LMAP society members, delegates and committee effectively.
