Civil & Environmental Engineering (UG): Year One Wellbeing Representative

Hi, I’m Joseph.

I have always wanted to take on roles where I could make a difference. For example, I led my school’s Sustainability Society for two years. I know I have the motivation and experience to deliver for the cohort.

Now we have made the jump to university, I have seen how the sudden academic changes can lead to wellbeing becoming forgotten. I want to make it easy to stay in a good frame of mind whilst working hard. Stress and pressure will stop you from doing well on your degree, but will also stop you from enjoying the amazing opportunities that university life provides.

I believe that inclusivity is a core aspect of wellbeing and will be sure to prioritise it. I aim to work with the department’s existing organisations to tackle specific inclusivity-related wellbeing issues. I hope to draw upon my own experience of wellbeing challenges related to my neurodiversity.

Alongside my commitment to the big issues, I will be a friendly face to speak to about any wellbeing challenges, however small they may seem. You will always be able to contact me and I will work hard to get your voice heard.

I will only be able to work effectively by understanding our cohort’s issues. Therefore, alongside always being available for direct contact, I will endeavour to allow feedback to be given anonymously, as I understand that it can be daunting discussing wellbeing issues in person.

I really look forward to this campaign and this opportunity!
