Amy Lloyd Evans

Students with Disabilities: Welfare Officer

Hi everyone! I’m Amy, a 3rd year medical student and I’m running for Students with Disabilities Welfare Officer.

Before university I never had any support for my disability, and this had a significant impact on my wellbeing. Since being here at Imperial, I’ve started to explore what support I need and come to realise how different things can be.

Disabilities can have a very significant impact on a person’s wellbeing, both from the impact of coping with practical difficulties raised by the disability and by the stigma associated with the condition. As such, I would like to focus on these areas to help improve the wellbeing of students with disabilities here at Imperial.

I believe that the many of the difficulties faced by those with disabilities are due to an environment that isn’t suited to their needs. Consequently, reasonable adjustments are vital to enable us to go about our lives, but advocating for them can cause significant stress. If elected, I would also like to focus on supporting students to advocate for their needs and to try and break down some of the barriers students face so that we can spend more time focusing on what’s important. Reasonable adjustments aren’t optional; they’re a right and should serve to level the playing field not create more work for the students who need them.

This is something I feel passionately about and would love the opportunity to take on this role.

Thanks for reading and I hope you’ll vote for me :)
