Hi everyone, I’m Cormac and I’m running to be your Social Sec for 2025-26!!
I believe that our social events should be accessible, enjoyable, and welcoming to every student, regardless of their interests or background.
Having built strong connections with social secs from a range of ICSM societies and spoken extensively with them about their roles, I have a solid grasp on what this job entails. I am a member of a range of ICSM societies and have attended all the major ICSM events (including every Freshers' Fortnight event) and loved them, which has given me first-hand insight into the high standard required and areas where we can improve.
Some of my top priorities include:
- Working closely with the Executive Treasurer to further subsidise events, making them as accessible as possible — especially the Freshers' Passport. This would also involve a restructure of how passport subsidisation for bursary holders is allocated, allowing more students to attend Freshers' Fortnight without financial concerns.
- Addressing scheduling conflicts with IC Union Freshers' events by maintaining open and clear communication with IC Union and working collaboratively to plan our events in coalition, ensuring students can enjoy the best of both social calendars without missing out.
- Establishing the role as a point of contact between social secs and the rest of the ents stream to assist in the smooth planning of events and avoid scheduling conflicts with society socials.
