In running for Departmental Academic Representative, I strive to ensure that all student voices are fairly represented in academic matters. The main change I am looking to implement is the transparency in exam marking - the way in which feedback can be given to us, through accessing the scripts ourselves (comments only / comments + marks) or administering feedback through our academic tutors, as I believe this is the most valuable form of reflection and is most beneficial for further academic improvement.
Having been in contact with the previous academic representative, I have gained valuable insight into the responsibilities of the role, as well as the challenges and opportunities it presents. This has given me a strong understanding of how to effectively gather, communicate, and act upon student feedback to bring about meaningful change.
My experience as a prefect involved similar skills, preparing me well for this role. I listened to and addressed student concerns, liaising with staff, ensuring issues were communicated clearly and resolved fairly.
If elected, I will work proactively to gather feedback from students at all levels, ensure their opinions are accurately conveyed to teaching staff, and advocate for policies that improve the student experience. My goal is to ensure every student’s voice is heard and valued in shaping our academic environment.
