Biochemistry (UG): Departmental Academic Representative

Biochemists! My name is Juliette, and when I’m not busy eating Bromocrescol green, I would love to serve as your Academic Representative!

Whether you want to go into finance or collect 3 PhDs, I want to develop an ‘applicable skills’ aspect to the Biochemistry course, so we realise how ready we are for the working world!

1. Develop communal resources, complementing the iconic HB notes. We can all get a first, so why not help each other do so!

Lab report templates, simplified ‘cheatsheets’ for R and Python, guides to submitting mitigating circumstances, .etc

Small things to make our time in the Biochemistry easier, not just for shy first years:

  • Recap sheets to make 2nd year students’ return to Python easier
  • Resources to make Year-abroad and Year-in-industry students transition back to classes easier.
  • A masterdoc for summer internships, featuring advice from UROP students. Between funding, ‘cold-emailing’, things to make the process less daunting.

2. How about making more practice papers available!?

  • Especially for the 3rd years, with the number of new modules available. Let’s discuss the development of sample papers with the faculty

3. Taking a page out of BMB’s coursework, let’s introduce a Poster making project.

  • As a staple of postgraduate research and presentation, learning to design and communicate our research is a lacking aspect of our course.

I am always open to suggestions, whether to reform COMMs and Maths or to get biscuits in the common room.

There is no project too small! Let's get academic!
