ICSMSU: Academic Officer for Early Years

Hello everyone!

My name is Oluchi and I would love to be your ICSMSU Academic Officer for Early Years. Having experienced first and (most of) second year, I understand the challenges of medicine in these years and the strength of the academic stream within ICSMSU which has greatly supported me and my peers. To put it simply, I want to help your learning and make it as easy as possible.

If elected here are my plans:

  • Supporting key academic initiatives: I’ll continue to run events such as CPA tutoring and mock (for 2nd years), ensuring they run smoothly. Working with psychiatry subcommittee has helped me develop event planning skills, which I’ll apply.
  • Improve SSLG engagement: I’ll ensure that students stay involved with meeting outcomes either in-person through the reps or via emails, so students see how their feedback leads to change. Before university, I held the most senior leadership position where I was responsible for organising meetings with student reps, giving feedback to faculty and running big events equipping me with necessary organisational and communication skills.
  • Study Techniques Sessions: Targeted for first years, introducing popular platforms and techniques to help them succeed.
  • Notebank updates before term starts and working with faculty to try to provide more practice questions.
  • Research Opportunities: Helping first and second years understand how to get into research even before CRI starts.

I hope to build on the work of the previous AOEY, ensuring every student has access to resources and guidance to thrive.

Happy studying 🙂
