Hi!
I’m Jacob, a second-year biologist, and I would be excited to serve as a Student Trustee next year. As a departmental representative, I have gained extensive experience with how the Union operates and what it stands for. I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with year reps, constituent unions, societies, deputy presidents, and liberation and community officers.
With this broad understanding of the Union, there are a few key areas I feel strongly about:
-
Assessment and Feedback: This issue consistently appears in the NSS. Departments must communicate and share best practices, as there is significant variation across the College.
-
Inclusion and Diversity: As a core value of ICU, it’s crucial to continue widening participation and ensuring campus spaces are welcoming and accessible- whether that’s Ethos, the accessible technology suite, or a dedicated prayer room.
-
Inflation: The financial burden of studying in London is huge. I want to push back against rising costs, from Taste Imperial prices to Ethos memberships and the extortionate rent increases proposed earlier this year.
-
Safety and Risk Assessments: After a review and a change in insurance provider, this process has become slow and difficult for CSPs. It needs to be streamlined to make student-led activities easier.
-
Green and Sustainability: As a biologist, I’d love to see Imperial take bolder steps towards sustainability!
- Space: The White City campus currrently doesn't have a library or gym. It needs them.
Thanks for reading! Maybe you could even vote for me (or at least rank me second)😉
