Alwin Paul
Hi, I’m Alwin, and I’m running for the position of Academic Chair. Over the past two years, I’ve held a diverse range of roles in both academic and non-academic societies, most notably serving as ICSMSU’s Academic Officer for Early Years. Working alongside dedicated teams, I have successfully:
✔ Organised sell-out networking research conferences
✔ Led and advocated for the academic interests of students in staff-student discussions – ensuring student concerns were heard and acted upon via SSLG meetings.
✔ Increased SSLG engagement – driving survey response rates consistently to 50%,
✔ Contributed to ‘Thinktank’ sessions – collaborating with faculty to enhance Undergraduate Medical Education.
✔ Organised clinical CPA mocks for 300+ students – partnering with four academic societies and facilitating a tutor-tutee allocation scheme.
My Key Aims
📌 Enhancing SSLGs & Student Feedback
- Further boost SSLG response rates, making student feedback more impactful.
- Foster collaboration between academic societies and Clubs & Socs to encourage student engagement and feedback sharing within their own communities.
- Implement a streamlined system to disseminate SSLG action points - because transparency = engagement.
- Introduce open forum feedback sessions, allowing more continuous input throughout the year instead of relying solely on termly SSLGs.
📌 Expanding Written & Clinical Mock Support
- Advocate for faculty-backed mOSCEs
- Collaborate with academic societies to leverage generative AI for developing high-quality question banks and written mocks.
📌 Championing Academic-Welfare Collaboration
- Work closely with the Welfare stream to identify and address challenges at the intersection of academics and student well-being.
- Ensure academic pressures are tackled with a holistic approach
