I'm a big fan of ICU Cinema, and would like the opportunity to be more involved and allow the cinema to be open more.
I think key areas for improvement are:
Promoting collaborations with societies - this would allow more people to experience the cinema, and would encourage them to return to the cinema outside of the society. I believe pushing this idea would make a big difference to the attendence of regular screenings throughout the year.
Ensuring clear communication - I believe it is common sentiment that there is a lack of communication between the people running the cinema and members who want to go and watch films, in terms of the film lineup and schedule. I feel we are missing out on a lot of people coming to screenings simply because they do not know what films are on long enough in advance. I would push for a release of the lineup earlier in the term as well as regular updates on what films are being shown in the coming weeks.
Encouraging student feedback - The cinema obviously can't show all new films, but I feel we would benefit from encouraging students to submit their preferences for what films to show. This would ensure we don't show films that nobody wants to see.
Overall, I hope you vote for me so that I can help strengthen the cinema community, and develop a better schedule to bring affordable cinema screenings to more students and societies.
