Hi everyone, I’m Rayan Akhtar, a Third-Year Computing student at Imperial, and I’m running for DocSoc President to improve the experience for computing students and help you make the most of your time here, both academically and personally.
My main goal is to create a collaborative environment so you can connect beyond exam prep and the DocSoc secret folder. I want DocSoc to support you in career development, mental health, and meeting new people. For freshers and second-years, I’ll organise networking events to help you build connections with industries early on, making a big difference when applying for placements or post-graduation roles. I also aim to work with the careers team to create opportunities for first-year placements to gain valuable experience over the summer.
I’ve gained valuable leadership experience as Sponsorship Manager and Treasurer for STEMmuslims, and as Hall Senior and Treasurer at Kemp Porter showing my skills in event planning, budgeting, and fostering a strong community, skills I want to bring to DocSoc.
Mental health is also a priority. To ensure this, I will have more inclusive and creative events that help manage stress during peak times such as PintOS and Summer Exams. These events will include mindfulness sessions, outdoor activities, and other stress-relief options beyond just social nights.
