Harrish Shivakumar
Biology: President
Hi everyone!!!
I'm Harrish, your current Year One Academic Rep - I'm running for next year's BioSoc president!
I've met many of you in person, and probably more on the Y1 group chat :)
My improvements for next year:
- Many more BioSoc events than this year - aiming for weekly events.
- More academic events - as Academic Rep I've met plenty of the department's staff so I'd be happy to organise talks from them.
- Careers in Biology talks - a recurring theme in the Rep feedback forms was uncertainty about careers after our degree. I will organise career talks/workshops from successful Imperial Bio alumni.
- Nature walks!
- Inter-uni BioSoc Ball - eg. at the UCL Grant Museum of Zoology
Why I'd make a great president:
- Experience running successful teams - alongside A levels I co-founded a business (we designed, manufactured and sold portable airborne allergen sensors), raising over £900 in funding as highschool students and winning prizes in student business competitions. I was also an editor of my school's science magazine.
- Experience organising weekly talks - I ran my school's Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage society, as well as a mentorship scheme in the West London area
- Reliability - I've put in consistent effort throughout the year to be the best Academic Rep possible :) - now I'll give BioSoc president my full attention!
If you think I've done a good job as your Academic Rep or agree with my vision for next year, I'd genuinely appreciate it if you gave me your 1st choice vote :)
Thank you! x
