Sri Lankan: Junior Treasurer

Hey everyone! For those of you who don’t know me, I am Minanga and I am running for Co-Treasurer of the Sri Lankan Society with my friend Aburvan Palananthakumar.

Moving from Sri Lanka to Spain when I was 15 years old, I never had the chance to connect with a Sri Lankan community—until I joined SL soc. From my first meeting back in October, I felt genuinely welcomed and a real sense of belonging, and ever since, soc events have been a great way to de-stress, meet new people, and have fun.

As a sub-committee member this year, I worked alongside other committee members to help make Sapphire a success. It made me realize the immense hard work and teamwork involved in organizing an event on such a grand scale, as well as the importance of being quick-witted and thinking on your feet when unexpected challenges arise. Building on the efforts of our amazing committee this year, I am ready to put in the work to make Sapphire 2026 even better!

Beyond the society, I’ve represented Imperial as a student ambassador, guiding prospective students and tutoring GCSE and sixth-form students—experiences that have strengthened my communication and organization skills, shaping me into a better candidate for this role.

I am running for this position with Aburvan, because we want to use our skills to give back to our wonderful community. Handling the second biggest budget for a society at Imperial is a huge responsibility and we are ready for the challenge!
