Artsoc: Concert Officer

Hi, my name is Matthew. I am a first-year student studying physics. With zero theatre experience, I joined ArtSoc hoping to explore the West End (without my finances going South). My first show, Phantom of the Opera, hooked me—both the performance and the post-show conversations with other members made it memorable.

But I noticed a trend: rush for tickets at 4 pm, watch the show, meet for photo-taking, and leave. ArtSoc offers great deals but could be more than a ticket dispenser. Theatre doesn’t end right after you leave. It lives on in the people we share it with — laughing at Orpheus for coming on too strong, retelling Hamilton’s legacy, or mourning Fantine’s sacrifice together. This is what ArtSoc should be: a community built on shared stories and emotions.

As your concert officer, I will:

  • Organise more social events, such as monthly dinners, festive gatherings, and movie nights. These events will allow us to create lasting friendships, turning ArtSoc into more than just a place to say ‘hello’ to familiar faces.
  • Run regular polls and collect feedback to increase ticket sales and reruns for popular shows, so everyone can enjoy the West End without missing out.

Having previously planned events to maintain student welfare for my high school in Singapore, I am confident I have the organisational skills to achieve my goals. I hope you will give me a chance to make ArtSoc a community where stories live on. Thank you!
