Chemistry: President

Hi everyone! I’m Marianne, a second year chemist. Outside of chemistry, I enjoy running, playing badminton and electric guitar, painting, and reading. This year I was delighted to be your Vice President and I’m now running for the role of President.

Working with this year's committee, I’ve enjoyed helping to organise a range of events while learning the financial and administrative aspects of the Society. If elected, I’ll build on this year’s successes, continue what you’ve enjoyed, and introduce new ideas to make ChemSoc even better. To me, ChemSoc’s primary goal is to create a welcoming and friendly community where everyone feels valued. This means ensuring a variety of opportunities - whether through social events, coffee drop-ins or insightful talks.

This past year, I’ve worked on interdepartmental activities, academic talks, and I was a catalyst (pun intended) in delivering the Christmas dinner and ensured your feedback shaped the event. Next year, I’d love to enhance the Chem Parents scheme by introducing informal, fun “family reunions” to strengthen connections. I’ll also make sure that we continue inviting inspiring speakers, that we increase the offer of career and academic talks, and that we expand the ChemSoc merch that you love.

Finally, I will always listen to your ideas to bring them to life. If elected, I will be dedicated to keeping ChemSoc exciting and inclusive, creating a fantastic year ahead with the new committee! 😊
