Veylan Sebastian
I’m Veylan Sebastian, a 3rd-year medical student with a strong interest in surgery, particularly gastroenterology and orthopaedics. I want to bring my leadership experience and drive to the Surgical Society to help expand opportunities for students interested in a surgical career.
I’ve held several key roles, including Treasurer for Imperial Medics Rugby, Head of Sponsorship for Imperial T-Soc, Sponsorship Officer for the National MedTech Hackathon, and Lead for the BRS Phase 1B Crash Course in MedEd. These positions have given me experience in finance, sponsorship acquisition, event organisation, and teamwork, all of which are essential for this role. I’ve also been actively involved in surgical research with multiple consultants, giving me a strong understanding of academic surgery and its importance in training.
If elected, I will:
- Expand hands-on opportunities, making surgical skills workshops more accessible.
- Improve networking and mentorship, connecting students with surgeons and trainees.
- Increase funding and sponsorship, securing resources to enhance society events.
- Support research involvement, providing clearer pathways for students to get started.
I’m competent, hardworking, and a strong team player who can bring fresh ideas to the society. I want to help make it as engaging, well-resourced, and useful as possible for aspiring surgeons. Vote for me, and let’s build something great together.
