Surgical: Executive Committee Member

Hello! My name is Vaishally, and I am running for the position of Surgical Society Executive Committee Member.

Having attended numerous Surgical Society events, I’ve witnessed firsthand how crucial the society is in offering students valuable exposure, skills, and networking opportunities. If given the opportunity to, I am eager to help expand and enhance these opportunities to benefit even more students.

Through my experience in organising academic conferences, I have developed strong leadership, event planning, and collaboration skills that will be essential in this role. My previous involvement in managing logistics, liaising with speakers, and understanding student engagement strategies will allow me to contribute effectively to the society’s events and initiatives.

If elected,

I will work towards arranging surgical procedure viewings, either in hospitals or through online live-streamed sessions, where surgeons can explain the steps of an operation in real time. These sessions would provide students with a unique opportunity to see surgical decision-making in action while reinforcing their understanding of anatomy, pathology, and procedural techniques.
Furthermore, I will advocate for increased mentorship opportunities, connecting students with surgical trainees and consultants for guidance, portfolio-building advice, and career support.

I believe that my previous experince in academic event organization and my commitment to student engagement make me a strong candidate for this position. I would love your support in enhancing the current opportunities that Surgical Society offers as well as implementing some exciting new initiatives.
