Surgical: Executive Committee Member

Hi everyone! My name is Sudharshan and I’m a third-year medical student who is running to be an Executive Committee Member in Surgical Society.

As a Subcommittee member this year, I have assisted in the execution of events from the flagship Trauma Conference to Skills Days for the various specialties. I played a key role in the planning of the Reconstructing The Stereotype Conference in conjunction with iPRAS, holding responsibilities such as searching for speakers and workshop leads, creation of marketing materials and managing workshops on the conference days. Through these roles, I have gained insight into the society’s operations and how its events are run. My experiences as National Conference Lead in SORA and Vice-President (Events) of Imperial FoMSF have also taught me practical skills in planning events and collaborative skills in working with the Union to execute them.

Mixing my interests in surgery and gastroenterology, I hope to reintroduce the Colorectal Surgery Skills Day, with talks from leading colorectal surgeons and workshops related to suturing, laparoscopic skills and bowel anastomosis. I also look forward to reviving the mentorship scheme, allowing our society members to network with experienced surgeons and surgical registrars. Being mentored by a registrar provided reaffirmed my choice to become a surgeon in the future and I hope others can experience this as well.

It has been a pleasure working with this year’s committee to organise excellent events, and I’m committed to doing the same next year.

Please consider casting your vote for me, thank you!
