Surgical: Trauma Conference Chair

Hey everyone!

I’m Marya, running for Trauma Conference Chair to make next year’s event even more innovative, internationally recognised, and impactful. As this year’s Trauma Personnel Officer, I’ve also helped organise 11 conferences and contributed to WinSSA, iPRAS, Transplant & Vascular Society, and Duke University’s FLPSUS programme. With my background in event management, international outreach, and surgical education, I’m excited to bring a fresh approach to Trauma Conference 2025/26, themed "Beyond Trauma".

What’s New?

  • Broadening the Speaker Lineup: Building on the success of inviting Dr. Christos Christou (International MSF President-whom I brought to his first student-led conference talk!), I’ll introduce new speakers like Professor Mansoor Khan and Mr. Martin Griffiths, both pioneers of trauma surgery.
  • Refreshed Workshops: Partnering with organisations like Symani Surgical, I’ll introduce workshops such as a mini Trauma-Case Hackathon (a proactive workshop inspired by the Patron’s Case-Based Tutorial) and a Trauma Operating Room Simulator. I’ll also run a pre-conference suturing course to build confidence among novice delegates.
  • Publicity & Engagement to Expand International Outreach: To boost engagement and early ticket sales, I’ll launch a video campaign featuring the committee and create two new Trauma Publicity Officer positions to strengthen marketing efforts. Additionally, I’ll expand our international connections with institutions like LKC (Singapore), Professor Boffard’s network (South Africa), and personal connections from the Middle East to grow our global delegate base.

Trauma 2024 showed how surgery can break down barriers. As Chair, I’ll amplify this spirit of global unity with a humanitarian focus that transcends borders.

Thank you!😊
