Hello, I'm Tony Alocious! 👋 I have been involved with NeuroSoc for two years. This year, I am NeuroSoc’s Conference Secretary, in which capacity I led the logistics of ‘Meeting of the Minds 2025’, NeuroSoc’s annual conference. Last year, I attended Meeting of the Minds 2024 as a delegate.
MOTM is typically the biggest event in the NeuroSoc calendar: this year, we attracted around 120 delegates. The conference this year hosted a Nobel Prize Laureate – John O’Keefe as well as our other high-profile speakers including our patron. In my role as a General Executive on SurgSoc, I have also run my own conference attracting over 60 delegates. In this process and my conference secretary role for NeuroSoc I have learned a lot about Union bureaucracy, including event proposals, risk assessments, event budgets and room bookings. My familiarity with Union procedures, together with my NeuroSoc experience, would enable me to ensure that the society continues to function effectively over the coming year.
If elected Co-President, I will make every effort to ensure that the society’s key events this year, Meeting of the Minds, and the Brain Dissection sessions, take place successfully next year. I will make the society more active outside of these two events, primarily by bringing back the Speaker Series. We could host a mix of neurologists, neuroscientists, and neurosurgeons, catering to the interests of all our members. I will also work to implement neurosurgical workshops by using society funds to purchase neurosurgical training simulators.
