Hello everyone! For those of you who don’t know me, I'm Begüm (a first year Biochemist) and I MEAN BUSINESS. I had the fortune of being the academic representative of my cohort this year and I believe that this experience helped me communicate with a lot of faculty members. I never shy away from an email and at this point, I write emails for fun. In high school I always found internships through this way and organized events such as this for my Molecular Biology elective as well! I have experience in reaching out to researchers outside of Imperial (like Francis Crick Institute, academics from other universities etc.) and I want to provide you opportunities to talk to them about their research and academia in general!
Through being a part of different societies I made a lot of friends who do PhDs and I know that they can provide great insight for us as well. I have a lot in my mind and I promise that it will also be shaped by your demands (for instance, if there is a great interest for induced pluripotent stem cells we can DEFINITELY make an event for that) A lot of us first years enjoyed hearing from older students and I intend on keeping events such as that (summer internship insights etc.)
