Biochemistry: Academic Events Officer
BIOCHEMISTS, ARE WE FEELING ACADEMIC!? No!?
Then let’s change that!
As academic events officer, I have a number of goals to make Biochem society an academic hub!
1. Develop an Events Calendar
Taking advantage of individual year group chats and forming a communal calendar, I want to boost engagement from not just biochemists, but enthusiasts too!
This comes with the intention to not schedule Biochemistry events during undergraduate lectures and practicals.
2. Collaboration with other societies
We should unite the Life science and Medicine societies, like PharmaSoc, NeuroSoc and FemTech, to ensure high engagement for all our socieities' events.
3. Talks from alternative bodies
To gather an idea of our futures in biochemistry, I want to invite in alternative voices to hear from, like Drug Science and their pro-recreational drug stance or biochemistry parent attorneys.
There is no one path in biochemistry, so exposing ourselves to many POVs is the best way to learn!
4. Group trips to conferences
Weather niche, like the annual Glycoprotein meeting, or more general, like INTERPHACE, I want to encourage group conference trips!
An excuse to visit key labs and research centres in London (and maybe beyond), like the Wellcome Group or Francis Crick Institute, conferences give an idea of future PhD topics and let us meet leading researchers in our fields.
With an intent of looking to subsidise group trips to these conferences, it will be a good opportunity to meet likeminded enthusiasts in our course!
Stay Biochemical!
