Hi, I'm Issabelle (but you may know me as Izzy), a proud Mackem and a first-year MEng Materials Science and Engineering student. This year, I’ve loved the opportunities MatSoc have provided—from lunchtime talks and wellbeing events to the MatSoc Dinners. Next year, I’d love to contribute and give back by running for Events Officer, helping more people feel welcome and making the most of what MatSoc has to offer!
With over five years of experience in hospitality and events volunteering, I understand the challenges of running successful events—balancing cost, satisfaction, and creating memorable experiences. My work as a tutor and administrator has strengthened my communication and organisational skills, which I hope to bring to MatSoc events.
As Events Officer, I hope to build on past social events while introducing fresh ideas with your input! Planning the summer trip is something I’m especially excited about. With the help of my industry contacts from back home in the North East, as well as looking further abroad, I’d love to help inspire career prospects you may not have considered before. And, of course, make it a fun and memorable experience!
I hope to work closely with the committee and the wider MatSoc community to create events that are well-organised, enjoyable, and meaningful. Whether it’s securing great venues or collaborating with external companies, I want to bring people together, create new opportunities, and continue to make our events as engaging as possible.
