Janushana Sutharsan

I am Janushana, a fourth-year medical student, and I am standing for position of Secretary for Paediatrics Society. Having been a part of the Teddy Bear Hospital Society and the Paediatrics Society for several years, I thoroughly enjoy interacting with and educating younger children about their health. I am enthusiastic about continuing to contribute to this society.

As Secretary for ICSM Teddy Bear Hospital previously, I managed weekly newsletters and participant recruitment, gaining confidence in Mailchimp and clear communication. Through my BSc group assignments, I regularly took meeting minutes, honing my ability to document key discussions efficiently. As Paediatrics Volunteer Coordinator this year, I oversaw PlayTeam polo orders and tracking, showcasing my organizational and logistical skills. I've held multiple roles across societies, honing my organization, communication, and teamwork skills to manage tasks efficiently and coordinate effectively.

To improve communication and streamline the process, I would like to create a shared document on Teams where all committee members can add their contributions, including any content they’d like to include in the newsletter, as well as relevant links. Starting a mentorship scheme involving paediatricians from different specialties would provide valuable insights into the field and the different pathways. We can also organise socials such as a Games Night or crafting sessions, where volunteers, members, and the committee can connect and build stronger relationships. Additionally, we could host fundraising activities, such as a Toy Drive or Quiz Night, to support children’s charities, possibly with National Paediatrics Fundraising Society.
