Gaya Giritharan

Hi everyone!

I’m Gaya, and together with Vanathi, I am excited to run for your next Paediatrics Co-President!

As this year’s Conference Chair of Paediatrics, I had the amazing opportunity to work with both the core committee and my own conference subcommittee to organise a national conference, welcoming 136 delegates and receive approval from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. This was an incredibly rewarding experience and reinforced the importance of creating accessible opportunities for students to engage with.

Along with being a PlayTeam Leader, my roles as President of Pharmacology society, Conference Lead of SORA, and Secretary of ICSM Music Society, have provided me experience in overseeing the execution of large-scale events, managing teams and developing my communication, delegation and leadership skills.

Our Aims for next year:

Academics:

• Increase subcommittee engagement in collaborative activities by appointing subcommittee in-charge roles

Conference:

• Increase attendance from older years & junior doctors
• Introduce hands on wet workshops

PlayTeam:

• Improve storage efficiency
• Implement regular check-ins with leaders

Community & Outreach:

• Facilitate opportunities with organisations, charities, schools with a focused timeline

Sponsorship:

• Maintain strong relationships throughout the academic year

General:

• Standardise handover documents for all roles
• Maintain regular 1-2-1s with committee
• Increase Paediatric surgery presence in events
• Host more socials to promote committee bonding!

PaedsSoc has given us incredible and rewarding opportunities, and we hope to give back and create the same experience, if not better for future members :)
