Vaishally Ithayananthakumaran
Hello! My name is Vaishally and I am a second-year medical student running for the role of Oncology Society Academic Officer. My interest in oncology has led me to find ways to get involved in the field outside of the curriculum, and I’m excited to create valuable learning opportunities for students at all levels.
As a subcommittee member for the Oncology Society, I contributed to organising events such as the National Oncology Conference whilst also developing skills in event planning, liaising with speakers, and coordinating logistics. This experience has strengthened my ability to understand student learning needs and work collaboratively to deliver engaging academic content.
If elected,
- I will work to provide students with career insight opportunities, such as oncologist shadowing and cancer surgery viewings, to bridge the gap between theory and clinical exposure.
- Additionally, I aim to organise fundraising initiatives and community outreach events that raise awareness and support cancer research.
- I also hope to introduce a monthly newsletter to keep students updated on recent advancements in cancer research as this would be a great starting place for students seeking research opportunities in oncology.
I believe my experience in organising academic events as well as my enthusiasm for oncology make me a strong candidate for this role. I am dedicated to making the Oncology Society a hub for learning and engagement, ensuring that students have the resources and opportunities to excel. Thank you for taking the time to read my manifesto. I would be really grateful for your vote!
