Hi everyone!
I’m a first-year, and, I probably wouldn’t be in this club if it weren’t for trail running.
I grew up in Russia and when I moved to England for boarding school, I got into rowing and stuck with it for four years, but I quit just before A-levels and felt completely lost. That’s when I turned to the Shropshire Hills, and running through them made me fall in love with trail running and the incredible landscapes of the UK, something I think the club could be making much more of!
How?
Firstly, I know from experience that steep hills and long distances can feel intimidating. I would address this by building a diverse program of trail runs in terms of location and difficulty because I truly believe we could bring so many more newcomers into the club this way!
Secondly, as Trail Captain, I would make sure trail running becomes a much bigger part of our club culture. With so much pressure in our daily lives already, running just for the joy of being in nature, without worrying about pace or competition, is incredible for the mind, body, and soul, whether you're here for the social side or to win medals.
Some of my initial ideas include a day trip to the Seven Sisters and a weekend getaway to the Lake District :)
In short: I absolutely adore running and nature, and if you vote for me, I promise a ridiculous number of trail runs next year!!
