Serra Yenilmez
Hello everyone! I am Serra, and I am a first year Biology student. This year, I am running to be a member of the General Committee of the Pharmacology Society!
With a strong background in biotechnology and pharmacology-related research, I believe that pharmacology should not just be about learning established treatments—it should also be about exploring new frontiers, challenging conventional thinking, and pushing scientific boundaries.
Over the past year, I presented my research on behavioral therapy and psychedelic treatment for children with autism at a symposium, an experience that improved my understanding of how accurate science communication shapes public perception. This experience also reinforced my belief that innovative treatments, such as psychedelics and alternative therapies, deserve more scientific exploration and open-minded discussion.
Additionally, I am also deeply interested in the intersection of science and business, particularly in how innovation in pharmacology translates into real-world impact.
Thus, I aim to:
- Expand business and industry collaborations so students interested in biotech startups and the business side of pharmacology can explore career pathways beyond academia.
- Find opportunities for networking and mentorship opportunities from researchers and pharmaceutical organizations for effective science communication.
- Encourage discussions on emerging treatments through panels and research showcases on psychedelic medicine, alternative therapies, and cutting-edge advancements.
I believe that the future of pharmacology lies in embracing innovative approaches with a critical yet open-minded perspective. If elected, I hope to work with my friends to create exciting opportunities, and contribute to a Pharmacology Society that thrives on curiosity.
Thank you!
